I just got a Buck 123 Fillet knife that I won on ebay.
I hope to put it to use this weekend. In just the short time that I have had it in my hand cleaning it up and then sharpening it I must say I really like the handle.

Last year I used a rapala fillet knife. It has a wood handle and does not give me much of a grip.
One time last year well cleaning fish the knife slipped in my hand and gave me a preaty deep cut.
I have been looking for a better fillet knife from that day on.

I think I have found just what I have been looking for.
The Buck 123 :)

Next to the blade the handle is the most important thing about a fillet knife. I am glad you liked it. I am a salt water fisherman as well as having a short fillet knife in my hunting pack as a boning knife. I like the grip as well.

Pahl, that 123 is a great knife! The only thing to watch out for compared to the Rapala is that the blade has a little more backbone to it and it is much sharper. It was easy to cut too deeply along the back the first couple fish I did but now I can't clean fish without it.

I sent my old one in for Edge 2000 treatment and it is better than new

SuperX,
Welcome to the forums. It's to bad Buck does not still make the 123.
My 123 did not look as if it had ever been sharpened and it did not have to bad of a edge on it. After cleaning it up I still gave it the razor edge treatment.

I checked out Bucks current fillet knives in a local store before deciding to get a 123 on ebay. I'm sure they would all do the job of cleaning fish fine, but the knives just did not appeal to me. A good handle is what I was looking for at the time. Once again not to put down the currect models, but I also like the fact that the 123 says "USA" on it.
