I've got an older Buck 124 that I am planning on letting go. I remember that Buck now puts a code on their blades, and mine didn't have that, but I've forgotten now what that code is, or when they began using it.
Can someone help me out or point me in the right direction? Anyone know what these blades are going for these days?
Thanks!

Hi, Buck started code dates in 1986. If you go back thru the prior pages of the Buck forum you will find several threads on the 124. Handle materials, blade markings , etc can help you pin the date down better. IMHO,i would not let the knife go if at all possible.it is a collector and it is an excellant user. sorry i cant be more specific, but you have a great knife.:) :)

Thanks, Guy! I'll check out those earlier threads. I'm only selling the 124 to finance new grips on a sixgun; maybe if I can swing it I'll hold onto it. One of my boys would probably love to get it someday.

Naw, mesquite, for that southwestern feel. Nothing's more exotic than ivory, but I'd have to sell more than a knife to pay for that!

Virg,

I also have a Buck 124 Frontiersman....EXCELLENT knife! Don't sell it, as you will regret it later. Sell your son, wife, dog, car, house, etc. if you have to, but keep the knife!.:D.
