I was rummaging in the garage and found what appears to be a 124 Frontiersman from when I moved. IIRC this knife came from my dad, who got it somewhere in the mid 1980s.

I was looking for more information, as it appears to have a nonstandard handle material. It has what appear to be rosewood handles instead of the phenolic handles found on Bucks website. If it’s as old as I think, that would make it 425M steel. Can anyone confirm this? Looking on EBay, these appear to have some collector value. Are they still being made?

It would be best to post photos of the knife and any markings. Also, the 124 has grown smaller over time. Its blade length has gone from just over 7 inches to 6 & 5/8”.

124s are still made. People collect them, so they have value. You need to provide a picture so we can see the blade, tang stamp, pommel, guard, and handle.

This Buck 124 Frontiersman from my collection was built in 1981 using 425MOD blade steel and has the impregnated wood handles you mention. OH

That’s pretty much what I have just darker wood. It’s from the mid 80s which would place it in the 425M time period. I have a short video but haven’t been able to post it to YouTube yet. The handles are a little more brown than the picture above. The sheath is black leather. While it is secure, one risks cutting the snap off when drawing the blade.

I need to measure the blade length. It’s a handsome knife and takes a sharp edge. I don’t really use it, especially with $40-$50 Cold Steel SRKs and Recon Tantos floating around.
