My Buck 170 Liner-Lock has what I feel is too much slop when the blade is locked.

If taken by the blade and shaken, there is a distinct rattle.

Shouldn't this knife be rigid & quiet when the blade is extended, or is it possible a shim or other blade-tightening device is missing?

Just try getting a tiny allen wrench and tightening it up a tad... I daily carry a red/black marble 170 and have to do that every great once in a while. That may be a tiny torx wrench... didnt get out the magnifier...lol...

I think the little 170 is the best kept secret for small Buck pocket knives.

Send it back to Buck if you can't tighten it up. Shipping wouldn't cost you much on that litte critter.

I have even had to do that on my 174 and will probably have to do it on my 179

Does anyone have a photo of a 170 with the belt clip affixed?

Buck sent me one for my knife and there seems to be no way it's for a 170.

Not all the 170's were tapped for a clip....

Knifer,,,email me,,, tell me what yours is. Maybe we can work something if you want one with a clip. I actully prefer the non clip.

I also have a 2002 in silver and just noticed that it is pinned together. The 98 and 99 models have tiny little torx screws for the frame and an allen for the blade pivot.
