I want to lust for something different. These knives look neat, but are they 'that' neat? Do the Ti framelocks really work well, ie, are they tight? Is the longer 172 that much longer? They are, at 'great' web prices, about what the 895 runs - and that's another 'different' choice. Admittedly, I am considering the MCusta line of Damascus/VG-10 knives - and the Seki-sourced Kershaw 'Gentleman's Folder', a less expensive knife than the others. I just want something different... then I'll lust over 55s & 112s again.

I am celebrating my IRA of mutual funds turning around... and falling, Hollywood style, into the sewer. No more worries there... it's 'gone'!

Hey Stainz...
Yep, they are "that" neat.

As a casual accumulator of Buck knives, it's easier to state what I don't like about them as opposed to what I do like about them. Well...maybe they're both easy points for me to address.

What I don't like: nothing
What I do like: everything

I have EDC'd a 172 for three + months....along with a BG-42 560 on my fanny pack.
The 172 sees constant use several times a day....manly paper items and tape.
I have cut up some grilled chicken and pork chops for lunch on ocassion.
I luv it ,light weight stays sharp ,I touch mine up an a ceramic rod every week
and she still has the factory grind and lines, only dropped her once on concrete
no visibal signs of damage,I think due to the light weight.

They are absolutely that neat!!

I have carried a 179 or a 174 cousin frame lock almost daily for a couple years now.... Not a problem. I finally sold my 172. It got tired of living in the drawer because I wouldn't carry it. I just couldn't abuse it like I have the other two. But they do clean up nicely with a little steel wool and wd40.

Put blue locktite on the clip screws. And, the clips are as tight as the day I bought them.

I've had a Buck Mayo TNT (172) for several years. Definitely my favorite knife in my modest little collection. Doesn't see as much use as it used to, but it is a great knife IMO and I don't think I'll ever sell it.

EDU'd one of these for a couple of months. The only reason it's not still in my pocket everyday is that every once in a while I need something bigger - bigger (more accurately -heftier) can accomplish most of what you use a small knife for - the reverse isn't true.I'm going to hold onto one of my Buck/Mayo TNT's - they are really, simply great gents folders. As is so often the case -you have to handle one to appreciate what Buck/Mayo have wrought.
