Buck 173 over 172 if steel doesn't matter?

Hi everyone. Noob question. I really like the Buck Mayo knives. I see that the 172 and 173 are fairly similar minus the number of holes in the handle and the blade steel. My question is, is the 172 still far superior to the 173 if blade steel doesn't matter to me?

If you don't care about blade steel, handle materials, workmanship or possibly internal parts differences, then no.
 
Thats my question. So there is an actual difference in quality between the two?
 
Get the 172. It has a WAY higher level of fit and finish. It feels sturdier and probably will last longer.
