I was given a Buck 181 NRA-ILA recently and have carried it a few times but find it a bit big for every day use at work and around the house. The knife is nicely made but the blade seems a bit delicate for robust outdoor use so I was wondering what it was designed for. I like the shape and the overall narrowness of the scales, it feels good in hand. Did Buck make a smaller version? thanks

It looks to me to be more of a defensive knife than anything...Buck makes all kinds of different sizes and models. Check out their website buckknives.com...

I used the 181 in ATS34 while working in heavy industrial settings. It was used heavily daily for difficult cutting tasks, but no prying or using as a screwdriver etc. I've dropped it from 30 ft. with no damage. It was very functional in that setting. Just had to keep it clean and sharp.
