I have a Buck model 181 ( I think ) and was wondering if anyone could give me some info on this knife. I forgot I even had it. It's missing the 3 screws for the pocket clip, and the pocket clip. Does Buck sell these parts?

The blade is stamped:

Buck
181 U ( Model number?)
USA
ATS-34 ( I take it that this is the type of steel? Is this a good steel? )

Thanks for any information. I'm kinda new to all of this, but as time goes on I end up with more and more knives in my collection, and like to keep them in good shape.

Thanks so much for the quck response. I feel kinda stupid asking all of this, but I guess I gotta start someplace.

You say the U is the date code. I have to ask, what date does the U represent?

LOL I never really considered myself a collector until I realized how many knives I have all over the house. I started rounding them all up, and figured this would be a good place to start hanging out again.

I ended up buying a Buck/Strider model 889 a few weeks back and it reminded me I had this 181 someplace in the house. I finally found it and, knew I could get some answers here.

I need to study up on the different types of steel. I keep reading about all these letters and numbers and don't know what they mean.

Oh yeah I wanted to add that I tried doing a google search for info, and can't find anything on this model. I can't even find any for sale on ebay. What gives?

No, but I can try to take one. Everytime I try to host pictures it never works out. I guess i'm not the most computer literate person around. I would be more than happy to try and email it to you.

I emailed a pic to your yahoo address. I don't know if it worked but let me know. Feel free to post it here if you know how, and/or want to.

I can't figure it out either. I've really got to brush up on my computer skills, and get some new equipment. Everything revolves around it these days.

It is a nice little knife. I emailed the guy you mentioned above so i'll see what comes of that.

Thanks again for your help.

Awesome!

After you mentioned the actual name (Odyssey) I did some more research with google and came up with some archived posts from this very board in 1999. Seems that this is a first generation odyssey with the plastic spine.

I guess there is a model 181 and and some other model numbers that fall into the same series. Very cool stuff.

I really like the Buck Odyssey too.... the blade shape is works well for every day cutting chores.

If you have trouble locating a clip and screws, you could buy a 186 Odyssey (same as yours but with 420HC steel) for about $15 on the big evil E and swap the clip.

I actually found the original clip last night in my tool box of all places. Now I just need the correct screws.

I may send it back to Buck and see if I can get the whole thing tuned up at once. The blade seems to have a tiny bit of play up and down like it isn't locking up as tight as it should. Probably be worth it to have it serviced.
