Hi,
I am looking into buying a 184 locally but I want to be sure it's not a fake. Any tips? I've seen a couple of pics of fakes online but has anyone seen good fakes? I really don't want to get ripped off. Thanks everyone.

Al, I'd search that model in this forum as its talked about much. This may yeild you some info.. DM

Thanks JTC. That first site helped a lot. I ended up picking up a Pat. Pend. model for $100. Beautiful knife.

I am not a expert but i think once u feel a REAL ONE u can tell if its a fake... First the BUCK 184 has a QUALITY/heavy FEEL to them(u need to hold one first;o)) and they have BUCK engraved into the base of the blade(buck 184, Buc 184 pat pending, etc).. I have seen 3 different fake chinese buck 184's and u can tell the difference by just the feel.. I woud take a pic of it then post it.. Oh and the blade is super thick on a buck 184.. Thicker than the chinese copies.. good luck

I gave a $100 for mine. + - 5 years ago. Guy had it on his table at a gun show and I asked what he was asking and it was $100. I had to fight to keep from hoppin up and down. Mine is a pre patent pending model. I bought the big pouch from Buck but everything else was in the box. Sometimes you just luck out (I don't very often but did this time). Here's a couple of pics.

I have become the new owner of a Buck 184> Black Oxide. I found it while cleaning out a deceased cousin's home. I was reading on this Thread on a website that it was manufactured between Aug 1986 and Dec 1986. It also said it had a 3C style blade. I have the original Sheath with stone, compass & pouch, spikes. The Box is no where to be found. This knife has never been sharpened, the edge bevel is still bright. It has never been used. I am interested in any information you can give me. Thank You ahead of time!

Not to correct you but if you have a Black Oxide
with the markings
Buck
184 >
U.S.A.
PAT.PEND.

Your Cousin rest his soul left you something VERY special. If the stamp(i just retyped looking at your post) is the marking on your BuckMaster You have a 1987 Super rare knife that there were less than 199(black Oxide) ever made from Jan 1987 till Feb 1987. This knife is the rarest production (besides the Custom 184's)

Hey Rich! I nearly had a heart attack when I read /heard about the ultra-rare model. So I did some research. On the blade marking, the 4 has an open top and is the narrow lettering. I am including the website where I found this information on. It is a prize find, but not the '87 model. Thanks for the Heads up. Being new to this forum, I am really enjoying the posts and learning a lot. Here is the website. As soon as I can I will post pics of this beasty! Once again Thanks!

I also have a Buck 184 >. My dad gave it to me without knowing the value of it. I am missing the compass, stone and one of the pouches

I just got a Buck 184> black oxide knife from my dad for helping him clean out his garage. It came with a silivia compass and spikes. It has two pouches and no rust any were on the Blade. I was wondering what it is worth?
