I bought this knife from a guy while attending a Viet Nam Vet reunion. I didn't know much about this knife, but I figured it was a Buck and I hadn't ever seen one like it, so I gave him $60.00 and he was happy.

The tip is broken, though the rest of the knife looks pretty good. Can the tip be rehabbed? Do you think it would be worth it to have a specialist in this model Buck have a go at repairing it??

dang!!! what a score!!!! did you check the inside of the handle to see if the spikes are in it? also does it have the compass?

Yes, you can send it to Buck and they will do the work for you. As stated above "nice score", you can sell that for 2x + what you paid for it with the broken tip!

I'm a happy guy after hearing this from you guys! It doesn't have anything in the handle and no compass, though. I had seen knives like this at various flea markets but wasn't interested as they were made in Pakistan. When I saw "Buck" and "USA" on it, I figured I couldn't go too far wrong.

I'm going to give Buck a call tomorrow! This is great!

Thanks all!!

You can send Joe Houser a link to this thread in an e-mail and he'll be able to look at your pictures.

Just click on his name (bottom left on main Buck page here) and you'll get his profile and you can e-mail from there.

He will then be able to tell you what to expect regarding the work they can do.

Always good to share as much info as possible.

Great knife and awesome price! As others have already said, send it to Buck and they will rehab that baby. Just be sure to show us the "after" pics!

dax, can you give us some info on the Buck 184 club? I have done a lot of searching on the Buck 184 and haven't come across the club. I would be interested in it. Thanks!

Thanks dax0007! Trina from Buck sent me an e-mail with instructions on sending the 184 to them. She quoted me a tip repair and resharpen for $6.95 and a full refurb for $25.00. Lead time is 8-10 weeks. She said they're getting into their busy season. This is the bargain of the century!

I'm sending the 184 off to them tomorrow for the full refurb. I'll post up pics when I get it back from Buck. I'm stoked!

When I checked the mail today, this was waiting for me:

It was three weeks ago, today, that I sent my 184 to Buck for rehab! I am very impressed with Buck. What a great company!

For a whopping $25.00, I got this:

The edge is shaving sharp and the knife looks like brand new. This is a beast of a knife and will occupy an honored place in my modest collection.

Thanks much to all of you that chimed in when I posted up pics when I first acquired this knife.

Favorable outcome I'd say.

Wow e wow wow! Is another way to say it.

Buck is the gold standard.
