Going through some of my knives I came across a Buck 186 Odyssey that I carried for awhile.

After playing with it I once again wonder why they were not more popular. It is just a knife you can't find cause to criticize. Great blade shape, light but strong, locks up tight, fits the hand comfortably, everything hits a sweet spot.

I'm more into traditional pocket knives but this one should have been more popular in comparison to its competition.

I run into those on the auction site looking for the other 186, the titanium screwed 110 knife.

I dont really like when buck uses the same numbers on two different models. the 620 comes to mind the 120 kraton handled knife vs. the reaper version, as another example of this.

A friend had an Odyssey and he said that the lock would fail due to handle flex. He demonstrated to me how easy it was to overcome the lock with his hands and I had to agree that his knife wasn't safe. Maybe his knife was worn or defective, I couldn't say.

I agree about the double numbers, it doesn't make sense. Inventory control would be out of hand.... That's why I asked for a pic...

I am a big Odyssey fan also. I carried one exclusively for a couple years and just lately dug it back out and have been giving it some carry time. Nice size and weight for back pocket carry.

They have metal liners on each scale and a metal back. Mine seems quite rigid but then I've never got ham handed on trying to make it flex.

I like the 186 blade shape for a general use knife. Seems like a blade with belly is more popular but the 186 is a box cutting, slitting machine.

It's a neat knife.
Have one in ats34.
Looking back at the period of its introduction.
I Figure the folks at Buck Central finally
saw the need to up date it's folder line up with the current threads of the day;
Which in this case saw spyderco inspired features.
Luv that move, but IMHO it came out a little late in the game.
It just wasn't terribly original enough to have been
considered as something of a watershed buck design...
