Hi all...am new here :-)

Have just a couple of simple questions regarding the title knife:

1. Which steel was used for the blade back then?
2. Who designed this knife?
3. Can it be sharpened with Vulcanus?

Thanks.

I'm going to try not to be "that guy".... at least not without a friendly explanation.

So... there are few people who know the information your looking for from memory. Most people would have to "search" for that information then present it to you via a reply to this post. Unfortunately, most will just ignore your post (example: 58 views 0 responses at the time I chimed in) rather than do that work for you.

I'm here to help, or at least steer you to your answers.

First, in case you didn't know; all information that pertains to the standard factory 110 will apply to your 186. This means things like the date it was manufactured will be consistent with knives carrying the same date code as yours ">". Information like the year of manufacturer and blade steel type can be found in the stickies or specific searches in the forum. Those queries have been covered often enough that you should have zero issue finding the easy stuff.

Once you determine the blade type, you could get a more involved response by asking a question like: "Hey Buck Gurus, I have a Buck 186 made in 1987 with 425m steel. Can anyone tell me if Vulcanus is suitable for sharpening? By the way, what genius at Buck came up with this idea and why isn't it still in production?"

I know Mr. Spock just passed away not long ago and that's all I know about Vulcans, so someone else will have to chime in.

The search feature works pretty well here but searching on Google will probably net you even more results as it's less ambiguous.

If your ever not satisfied with search results on any web sites or forums, try this:
On Google.com:
Search for this exactly or cut / paste: "buck 186 site:bladeforums.com"

You can use "site:__________" in Google to find all results from a particular site.

There... I suggested he search for his answers without being "That Guy"

Welcome aboard. These folks are a wealth of knowledge and if you stick around, you'll be a full-time visitor.
