I really like the 192, and have been wanting one for a while. I ran across what looks like a good deal locally on a "like new" 1993 Vanguard which I may purchase. I like it because it appears to have a nice dark colored handle, with brass. I like it better than many of the newer lighter colored handles that I see a lot of these days. It comes with a tan colored leather sheath, which appears to be a little scuffed up from being in a drawer.

So, just in case I decide to look for a better sheath, can anyone tell me what other factory supplied styles / colors / shades of sheaths came with the Vanguard? I'm familiar with the cordura one, but prefer leather.

Also, if any Vanguard owners feel like posting pics of their different shades of sheaths & handle colors, please do. I be happy to see them, as I'm sure would others. It it a simply styled, yet beautiful design.

Thanks in advance for any info.

The 92 & 93 models had walnut dyed wood. Some came out dark, others a little lighter. The 1st leather sheaths were nearly the color of the handle.
Rich, warm looking leather. If the one you're looking at just has some shelf wear you can easily fix it up with a matching shoe polish. DM

Any good leather treatment should restore the sheath. You could take it to a leather worker or a shoe cobbler to renew it for you.

I bought this 2015 model 192 NIB off fleabay for $48 shipped. It came with a chocolate brown leather factory sheath. The sheath is marked 191 on the back. The scales are walnut colored Dymondwood

This is the pic from the fleabay ad of the sheath I bought for it for $30. That is not my knife

Thanks for the replies folks.

Good idea about the shoe polish, David, for touching up small scratches.

DDD, that is a great deal you got, and I like the color of your sheath and handle.

Here is a photo that the seller sent. I paid him, but won't receive the knife until next week. The date code indicates 1993. I thought it looked like a BR model, but he said there is no BR after the model #. The sheath is not that bad ... a few scratches that the shoe polish should fill in, but I still may watch for a good deal on a dark brown or black one, just to have.

Shoe polish should do a decent job on the scratches I see in pic. There does not appear to be any gouges that have removed any of the top layer of leather so it should cover quite well.

Not to get too off topic but after seeing the pics in this thread and while I like the different wood handles offered on the 192 I was just wondering how it would look with burgundy micarta?
