I just purchased a Vanguard 192. I like the knife, and I've ordered a sheath that's a little more sturdy. I would like to know the history of this Buck knife, when it was designed, improvements, construction (what's a rat tail tang), how close to R. Lovelace drop point?

Howdy,
Going to move this from Traditional to the Buck Forum. Lots of fellas there who can answer the most esoteric Buck questions.

Here's the catalog page from the year it was introduced (1992).

I would imagine a rat tail tang is the opposite of a full tang and means the tang of the knife is thin and doesn't run the length of the handle.

A lot of rat tails go all the way through...some are threaded and the butt cap scews onto them, some the tip of the tang is annealed then peened onto the butt cap or a washer...its an old way of doing it, and still a very strong and valid construction method.
