Who has one? I've been thinking about getting one of those lately and wondering why there are so little mention about it in here. Seems like one fine knife to me by all means. What's your opinion on it?

I collect Alpha Hunters and the 196's are my favorites. I have the production 196 as well as a "1st Run Production" and the Dear Cutout 196. I also have 7 customs 196's. They are a great little knife that fits the bill for not too big and not too small. Hope that helps.

I've got one also. I bought it with the intention of trying it out as a deer hunting tool. It ends up I got a first production run and now I feel like I shouldn't use it! I like it. It would make a dandy little hunter.

I have one that i use as a pocket knife, and it is a very nice blade that comes with a natural grip position in somewhat bigger hands.
But even the ats34 steel chips when it is used to cut a 3 core 1/2 inch electrical powercord (or it might have hit a nail, not exactly sure).

Sharpening might take some time and the right tools, but is well worth it.

I ordered one of the Buck Collector Club 196's. Will be my first 196. But have a couple of the folders.

It is supposed to be here in December. I had forgotten about it. Must have slept a couple of times since then.

The only one I have ever held in my hand was a fancy handle one Buck sent by accident when I ordered a 112 from that brief window the Custom shop opened up in 2009..It had a gold Bear cutout ?? I wasn't tempted to keep it but held it for a half hour or so..
