Okay i searched here and there is almost no info on it. Im a kitchen knife kick and came across one that's cheap and supposedly like new. Looks like a cheap handle but no idea on the blade
They had some sort of rubberized or santoprene handles that would not slip. I bought my mother some of these as I was always afraid she would cut herself. Now, I still have one of the paring knives.
Ok, they are Made by Buck but are they in the catalog? I just searched all of Buck's catalogs from 1985 to 1993 and I did not find them. This causes me to believe these were Only offered thru Moderne as a exclusive. Doc, good search to find that old topic. DM
Folding brochure for the Moderne set from the above linked thread, thank you DeSotoSky (do you have the entire set?):
A few photos from model 217 10" slicer off the auction site. Don't look too bad, big enough handle girth, thick enough blade and probably dishwasher safe:
BTW, I just located a 9 Inch Carving Knife MODERNE MODEL NO. 215 so they are still available. Cutlery is seemingly immortal. Image courtesy of Jays.
I use three knives in the kitchen, listed in order of frequency of use: chef's, paring and bread (all three are Victorinox). Never used a slicer, have you?
I haven't had a need for a big slicer yet but i know they are great for big beef roasts or even fish. I think I'm going to pass on getting a Moderene knife unless i find a stupid cheap one. I think I'm going too round out my empress set or buy one of the complete sets I've come across. I was going to maybe order some new ones of the Buck site with the discount code i got in an email but now all the cutlery is on back order. Guess it's just a sign to save money.
