I have a 277 alpha folding hunter with rosewood scales. It has s30v steel. Do I have an odd one. All I have seen have been sandvik steel or 154cm. Are s30v models fairly scarce? I got this from buck a few years ago at a good price when I became eligible under one of their discount groups. It came razor sharp. I have never used it but intend to change that when I start hiking again.

I'm no expert but to the best of my knowledge. If I'm not mistaken they orginally offered these in ATS-34 and then Cabelas went with S30V on their Alaskan Guide Series with a black coated blade ... and other dealers offered it in S30V with a standard finish ... and for a period you could buy them in 154CM ... and now they are offered in the 12C27Sandvik ... but I think Cabelas still has them in S30V in their Alaskan Guide Series.

I think you can still find some of the S30V and 154CM at times but other then the Cabelas Alaskan Guide Series I don't think they were made in great quanities.

It did. So it appears not many made. Nice to know that. Hmm to use or not to use. I just happened on it when looking on the Buck site looking at thing to use my discount on.
