Bought today at the factory store. They had 420 and s30v versions. I bought the 420. What a great assisted knife. Here are some pictures. Liner lock is dead on and this thing flips with authority.

some sort of zytel, frn or plastic material.

i own one a 420hc version as well. great assisted opener knife for the price point.

Very cool. What are the scales?
Ive never looked at these before. I needed a resonably priced folder in case I lose my other more exp knives in the field. Im suprised how much i like this knife. Its worth a try. There are a couple different kinds available.

Available Features and Options

One Handed Opening
Has a thumb stud, blade hole or other feature to facilitate one-hand use. Some models are one-hand opening and one-hand closing as well.

420HC Steel
This is Buck's standard blade material because it approaches the wear resistance of high carbon alloys while delivering the corrosion resistance of chromium stainless steels. Add our exclusive heat-treat process and you have a very user-friendly combination of superior corrosion resistance with excellent strength for wear resistance and durability. You also have a blade that is easy to resharpen. For best performance we harden to a Rockwell hardness of Rc 58.

Drop Point

This blade is full bellied with a strong, thick point for heavier tasks. It can also be used as a general work knife. The top of the blade drops down toward the tip, which minimizes accidental puncturing while skinning. The drop point blade is strong and very versatile.

That's not bad. I'm still looking for a decent budget knife for work. How do the thumb holes work, decent or more for show?

Flips. Dont see any reason for the thumbholes.

This is one of the Bucks I don't really care for. Mine has some kind of metal(aluminum?) scales that makes it heavier and the assisted opening/liner lock just doesn't do it for me. I prefer my 286 much more.

This is one of those cases where having a local dealer would have been nice. You buy with high hopes but it doesn't see daylight very often.

I didn't care for the sold metal scales version. This one is different, but unsure other than the scales.

DESCRIPTION
Quick, easy, and ready to tackle chores when you are; that's what makes Buck spring assisted knives a stellar choice. The Momentum has a 420HC steel blade with flipper opener and milled 6061-T6 aluminum handle with a removable stainless steel pocket clip.

This new knife has been great. I noticed the other day how close it resembles the 898. I highly recommend this one.20180510_214544.jpg 20180510_214603.jpg 20180510_214641.jpg 20180510_214659.jpg 20180510_214716.jpg 20180510_214738.jpg

I agree. In my opinion, that right there looks more like a $20.00 Kershaw than a Buck knife.
I know the safety lock on the back side of the new model is different than the lock on the old one. The new one goes flush when blade is open. The old one the latch stays up when the blade is open.
