Just a quick update and question.
I finally landed a 334 about 3 weeks ago. Knife is massive. I obviously underestimated just what David Martin was telling me when he said it was big. Its like a sword ha ha.
Ok maybe a sword is excessive bit in hand it feels bigger that a 110 to me.
Unfortunately for that reason it will be a catch and release. No reflection on the knife or construction just the sheer size is no use to me with our stupid UK laws. So that has to go.

On to another knife that was larger than I expected. The Camillus 301. This knife is different to the 334 in that I held the 334 and thought "Yeah I will be selling this" the 301 I can't bring myself to get rid of it. I have somehow managed to end up with a 301,302 and a Camillus 303. Love the look, feel just everything about them. I had them up for sale as I needed some quick cash but I am so glad they did not sell.
I was talking to a guy who was interested and he said he was interested in either a Case or a Buck knife. In my humble opinion (so no need to comment on just this part) Case knives seem more for looking at where as buck knives seem like working knives. I am over the moon I didn't sell in the end.

Anyway as I don't comment much I though I would try starting a conversation.
Hope everyone is well and has a great weekend planned. my 301 or 303 will be my companion this weekend.

Oh and the question. This has probably been asked hundreds of times. For you 301, 302, or 303 which do you prefer and why?

Thanks David,

If I could carry the 334 I think it would be a great carry. but as I do not have the same need as you do for a big knife the 301 would still win for an EDC. And given my current office setting I would go as far as to say the 303 would be more suitable. But I like the 301 for being that tad bigger ha ha.

Hope everything is good on your side of the pond to. No more rattlesnakes!!

Questions about preferences can get kind of complicated, although asking about a knife is a little simpler than asking, "Why did you marry that person?" For a knife, anticipated uses should be the main factor. I prefer having the three blades of the stockman pattern which narrows the choice to the 301 and 303. Between those two size is the determining factor and for me the 303 is more convenient and will do everything I need.

The 301 is a great knife. The Camillus 301 started my love affair for Bucks back in the 80's. Unfortunately I've never seen a 334 in real life. One of my favorite outdoor work knives is the 307 which is a large knife. I will agree that the 303 is about perfect size for office carry.

I will say that many of the Case knives are good users also. They do have a lot of different hands so folks that just want lookers can get them. I would say that while Buck gets most of the pocket time , Case is a close second followed by some other ones when I'm in the mood.

Hi Ian,
I'm glad you decided to keep them
Hope they bring you plenty of pleasure and joy
take care mate

I'm not really a slip joint guy. I really like the 334 Trapper for it's size and blade shapes. The only other slip joint I could
live with is Buck's 317 Trailblazer. Just my tastes and both have a lanyard hole. DM

What kind of scales does your 334 have?

The black handles on the 300 series were delrin. Unless the material was changed by 2000. Which I'm sure is the one he has. Another offering that same year was jigged bone (synthetic). DM

I have oft admired that 334, but I carry a 301 many times I am hunting or fishing. It is just too practical of a knife to ignore. However, if I am small game hunting the nod might go to the 303. The 303 is the best small game knife that I know of.

Evening All,
I was lucky enough to score a Camillus made 303 and a Buck made (i think) 2 spring flat ground 301
The 303 sharpened up really easily, and then bit me!
So obviously that's mine forever, added to the fact that I love the size!
The 301 needed to be shown the error of it's ways (not wanting to sharpen easily!) by being worked on my DMT diamond hone.
Now it cuts like a light saber as well
I think that they are 2 different steels that need different handling, a bit like people really.
Anyway I'm a happy happy Nursie
Take care
Graham

This is the 334 I found at the local gun-show. He's had it for a while, I've handled it numerous times, and last month I picked it up. $40 and a round trip to Buck and I have a pretty nice knife. I haven't decided whether it's a keeper yet. It's definitely going to be a great user though.

Since the blades were scratched pretty good, the etching was all but wore off, and suffered a poor sharpening effort I sent it in to have the blades cleaned up and sharpened.

Before the trip:

After a little Buck love:

(I didn't realize how bad the "after" photos were. Perhaps I'll try again later.)
