Buck 300s coming to custom shop? And customer/company correspondence

1) I like alliteration and consonance.

2) I decided to send Buck an email requesting a stockman with S30V blades, because I want a higher end steel on a traditional multi-blade knife; and because I like that Buck puts the straight edge opposing the main blade in their stockmans. And I guess because I don't want a big 'ol chunk of a traditional knife (I know about the Ranch Boss, and about the Case 154CM Trapper).

Well, I got a response from Sarah at Buck. She said they've been discussing adding the 300 series knives to their custom shop:

"Hi Drew,

We’ve actually been discussing adding the 300 series knives to our custom knife shop, and if this happens, we will definitely offer S30V. This isn’t something that will happen this year, but check back with us in 2018 to see the progress of this product.

Hope this helps!"

So that's cool. (I know there's a Buck subforum and I'm going to raise this issue there, too, because I'm sure there will be others echoing this sentiment, and those echoes can't hurt to push Buck over the edge.

3) Sarah's response came within 2 hours of my sending that email. Reminds me of when I emailed Case asking for something like a half whittler in 154CM. Got a response within a surprisingly short amount of time. I'd like to take this time to note that I have sent GEC something like 4 emails simply requesting a pattern be run or that 440C be used, and they haven't responded to any of those. They have been quite attentive when I've had problems with knives. But still, I at least feel appreciated when a company responds to my communications.

A custom shop 301 with an option of S30V and 5160 blades would be great.
I'd choose the 5160 carbon steel, since I want a 301 that can get a nice patina.

I would definitely pick up a custom shop 301 with some upgraded steel. Your story about Buck's customer service is not surprising to me. They are simply fantastic. I sent in an email one time asking if I could buy a replacement part for a knife directly from them. They overnighted the part to me and i received it the next day, and they refused to accept payment from me. I recently decided that I'd be buying more Bucks going forward.

Sounds cool! I wonder what cover materials they'll offer through the custom shop. They did a 301 with BG-42 steel and ivory micarta for BCCI that looked really nice.

New to the 301.. I am all in!!! A Custom Shop version would be KOOL!!! John

Drew, that was a fantastic post - definitely something I would be interested in! Thanks for that.

Wow, Buck is really stepping up their game here lately. First the Remington/Buck license agreement and now this. Bravo Buck!

With the scary edge Buck can put on s30v I'm definitely down for a 301 and would love if they did the 305 or whatever pattern it is that just has the clip and sheepsfoot blades.

My BCCI 301 in BG42 is one of my all time favorites.

Yes it is. The fit and finish is superlative.
But a 301 in S30V would immediately go to the top of my want list.

That's a VERY appealing edition.

Maybe variants could be made, including a 2 blade 'Stockman' Clip/Sheepfoot...

Or I wouldn't mind a pimped up Solitaire like this, it's a nice slim carry and is quality.

I would love to see that be offered! As for the one in Frank's post- stunning:thumbup:

You're welcome, Paul. I had hoped it would stir some excitement.

I think you'd get what you want. My inquiry was about a stockman (because, lazily, I'm not well versed in Buck's offerings). But Sarah said the 300 series, which includes two-blade-ers and singles.

I love 154 steels, and now I want to find one of those. But I read somewhere in the annals of this forum that you noted a significant difference in Buck's S30V performance (likely due to heat treat) as opposed to the modern manufacturers who use it regularly. And that inspired me...
