Been wondering this for a while: are the liners and bolsters on the 301 (and 303, too) nickel-silver or stainless steel? This is a great knife! I've had mine for three years now, and it keeps working it's way up my ladder of favorite and most useful knives!

Hi Steve,

I recently purchased a 2001 303 with brown pick bone scales and the bolsters and liners are nickel silver. Have to agree with you that it is a great little knife.

Thanks, Dave!
That's part of the appeal of the 301, the one piece liner/bolster. The only thing I don't like is Bucks bolters seems to scratch much worse than my Old timer 8-OTs bolsters do. They pretty much share equal time as my EDC, but the Buck looks a little more "used" than the Old Timer. I guess instead of scratches, I'll just call them "character marks"!

I have a couple of older 303 knives that have brass liners but all my newer ones have the silver color. I am glad to find out what material it is. Where did you find a 2001 brown pick bone 303? I have the 2000 version in my pocket right now. I love the 300 series, but I love all the Buck knives.

I just looked at my 303 and the date code must have changed all by itself...it is the 2000 code. Could have sworn it was 2001, must have been a different knife.

Anyways, I got it at the private Buck Collectors Club sale that was held during the October NKCA Cincinnati show. Had a great time there!

Steve, I've been using Happich Simichrome Polish on my brass and nickel silver, and it does a pretty good job of removing hairline scratches. Of course, it won't take out your larger character marks. ;)
