Buck 301 Pedigree?

Years ago (15-20) I gave my father a Buck knife which I have rediscovered going through his estate items. I was thinking of giving it to the son of a very close friend and I am interested in the pedigree.

On the main blade:

BUCK
301C
U.S.A.

The ‘C’ in the number is very different than the ‘C’ in ‘BUCK’. It’s more like a graphic symbol than a letter. Three flat sides with two square corner if that helps. The three blades are hollow ground. Looks very much like the current version of the full size Stockman from what I can tell on the Buck web page.

I am not expecting a collector item, but would like to pass along anything members might know. Thanks for you time.

If the symbol your describing looks more like this

that's a 1999 stamp.

About half-way down this page is a date chart.

Thanks! That's the one.

I should have but more effort into the search. I did that with a CASE with good result. Don't know why I did not try it for the BUCK?

It's 1999. Not as far back as I thought it would be, but no mistaking the square corners.

Excuse me, but if you check your dictionary, I think you'll find that drug addict comes before drunk, so the Elvis knife would come first... :D

You have to die before they do a commemorative knife, and Elvis ain't dead, he's working as a factory sharpener at Queen! :D

Oh, that's right! Silly me! It's McCartney that's dead!!! :D

I still think that a black velvet scaled Buck 110 with mirror polished blade would be the quintessential commemorative... ;)

Case did! BTW, that song, "Sunday Morning Coming Down," was written by Kris Kristofferson, not Johnny Cash.

Good point Tender Loving Care... I forgot about that Kris wrote it. But the Man In Black sang it to the charts:

Kris Kristofferson wrote this while living in a run-down tenement in Nashville when he was working as a janitor for Columbia Records. He was told if he was caught pitching songs to any artists he would be fired. He delivered this song personally to Johnny Cash after landing his National Guard helicopter in Cash's front yard. This song was #1 on the Country charts for 2 weeks in September 1970.

I am thinking there should be a musician series of Buck knives. Maybe one with a little coke spoon, a doc blade for counting pills, etc.

mnblade, not me. :D

For a guy that can't carry a tune in a bucket, Kris Kristofferson is one of my favorite singers!

His album "Repossessed" is great.

I don't give a rats cajones about KK's singing, and I don't think he was that great as an actor...but two of his movies are in my permanent DVD collection..."Millenium" and "Flashpoint"... ;)

Some movies are just greater than the sum of their parts...:thumbup:

I like a lot of his movies, my BIG problem with K.K. is his anti-handgun stuff. In times past he was a big contributor to H.C.I.

In all seriousness, I think Buck should look at doing more commemorative issue knives. We all know the collector is a big slice of the market. I truly believe that, if Case had not started dating their knives and also doing so many commemorative runs (in other words ramping up interest among collectors) they would be in the same dire straits as Schrade and Camillus. Buck shouldn't be above taking a page from the playbook of a competitor if it works.
