Take a look and give me your thoughts on who made it and when. The liners are brass as well as pin.

Thanks for your input!

Ok, I'll bite. It's a pre-1986, long pull Buck Model 301, with Black Derlin handle scales. Box matches era of knife.

Not a trick....is it camillus? Schrade? I'm thinking camillus from sometime in the 70's, but I'm not sure. Just started looking at these, and still learning the differences between the types.

GMan351, Welcome to the Buck Forum. I think it's a Camillus, I dont think the Schrade made knives ever had the model number stamped on the tang on the nail-pull side. Plus, Schrades have 3 pins in the Delrin handles and no visible pivot rivet in the bolsters. #300 Series aren't my "strong suit", but yours look like the 1973 to 1984 era. The box, paperwork and the # of brass liners, might further pinpoint the year.

I wasn't sure on the pin number. Thanks for the info. I have seen discussion about the bolsters where some of the Schrade were grooved and some were not. I've seen one for sale that was listed as a Schrade made and it did not have the 301 on the blade, but it did have "Buck" on all three blades. But then another one listed had "Buck" just on one blade. I thought there were two Schrade variations, but maybe more. I believe the Camillus one's stayed pretty much the same through the years.

I'm just getting into it, and I appreciate the info. I bought this knife and did so more out of sentimental reasons than anything. I had gotten one of these around 1975 and lost it sometime through the years, so this is like the replacement for that one. From the little info I had, I was placing this one in that time frame.

Take care and I look forward to learning more.

Thanks Confederate.

What differs from the earlier Camillus? I believe Camillus made them from 1969 to 1985. Right?

I agree and support everything already said. The first Cami's also had handle pins, the tangs read BUCK, Made in the USA with 301 on the reverse side.
Next came no handle pins, with BUCK, Made in the USA, 301 on reverse. Then the switch to BUCK, 301, USA on same side of tang. There is a slight difference in the over all shape of the knife also from earlier to later. But alas, to the student of this knifeology there are also different number of brass liners thrown in the mix that splits the eras. Photos on request.

Would love to see photos if you have them. How did the liners differ? It would be great if you have a shot that shows the liners in the different ones.

Early Cami 301's, with example of double brass spacer on the off side. Called 2 spacers here. These are the 301's between Schrades and knife pictured above.;)

Thanks for the picture...no easy task on keeping all of these seperate...definitely have better info to work from....I don't know if I want to get one of every type, but being able to get an early Schrade made might be nice.

Again thanks, take care.

Great photo set and an extra thanks for giving me a good guide to go by. These pics will be very handy.

Take care.
