My son used Schrade 8OTs for 20 years, untill 2004. After that date he put them away, and started to buy old Buck 301s made by Camillus.
That is when I looked at the Buck 301 knives, and found they were made in the mid 1960's.
As I have always been a Schrade collector since the 1970's - This is my small collection of Bucks, I have put together since 2005.

The Schrade & Camillus models had a better shape to the main blade than the current Buck.

Finally around. KG and I have communicated in the past. Schrade Bucks are well made, Except for the hidden bolster. That does not have to be a problem as long as you know you can't push cut lots of stuff and do it with force. Regular push cutting, and not constant and you should have a nice knife for a long time. What happened is the non-visible Swinden key method of blade pinning required the knife to be taken completely apart for repair. Those knives that came in on the forever warranty were causing repair department backups. So Buck changed to the thru bolster blade pin models made by Camillus. The ones shown are 301 sized models. The one with the bolster groove is the first model but has no number. The next version has no groove, no model number and no markings on reverse tangs. The third version has BUCK stamped on reverse of both secondaries. Look at the top edge of the main clip blade (swedge) for the quick ID as Schrade, Camillus do not go as far back. Otherwise you have the groove model, the version with Buck stamped on reverse of both blades and the third with no such stamping. Those will have large headed scale rivets. The last Schrade version has 301 on reverse of clip tang and has small headed rivet on the scale. Several of the models shown in the photo have to be the same versions. If you look a both Schrade and Camillus versions after just a little bit you can see the different shape of the Schrade easily.

I did not answer the question mark. Others who were actually there know better than me but I report the era ending in 1971..
