Wanted to see if anyone has experience and an opinion about different 305 Lancer models. Are the old Camillus made as good/worse/better than say an early 90s or a current production Lancers? I have a few old Camillus made and trying to decide between buying an early 90s version or a new one off of Amazon. Love the small size but think the thicker build of the newer double spring version might be even better for me. Any 305 junkies out there in Buck land that can help me out? Appreciate it!

Silly you if you really think you are going to buy just one.... :)

Generally I would say 2 springs is better than one. I think that change would be about 90/91. If Steel matters to you, there might be the possibility of 425m with two springs in 1990 or 1991, it's a narrow window. In my collection, the 1990 305 has 2 springs with brass liners and in 1991 it's the newer style with the 1 piece nickel silver frame. I'm going to assume 1992 sees the start of 420HC. Other than the slight possibility of 425m in 1991, which I am not sure about, any 2 spring model with the newer frame style up to the present is all the same. Hopefully Craig will wade in on this.

Personally I find the 305 much to small for my large hand but I like to collect them.

Ha thanks Desoto. Yea I already have a few in mind id like to get in hand. I really like the 1 piece frame that my 309 has, feels very stout. Best bet may be to grab one off Amazon and see if the thicker frame suits me and then go searching for specific models after that. Thanks for the thoughtful writeup sir!

Here is a 305 1st Version (1968-1971) with a small EZ open notch.

Has there been any definitive evidence that Schrade made a 305?

Not that I know of. I think Vern Taylor might have suggested that but there was no evidence, and no one else seems to think so (see the August, 1999 Newsletter).
