thanks

Morning..Can you post a picture. Sounds like maybe a thumb stud to open the blade. You might look at folding Buck knives on eBay and see if what you are talking about is pictures. I have only seen a thumb stud on the larger folding blade knives, mainly the 110 and 112. Hope this help a little.

hope this works

When you get to this point (see below), notice the "links" at the upper right of the page. Click on the code to the right of "Img Code" and it should show (in yellow) "copied". Go to your post and "paste".

Good find. My guess is that it may have been a tool or a gauge used in the blade dept. and got gathered up unoticed and put in the box with the other blades on their way to the next operation, finally making it all the way to you. Cool!

Oddball Bucks 001.jpg On top is a pre numbered (made in USA) 305 with dueling badges. Middle is a 313 with 321 stamped on main blade. Last is a 319 (finished out like jewelry) with an oddball badge. That 307 rocks!

I have not seen the 305, that will be Camillus or after modified. I have a 313 with a 321 blade and vice-a-versa that were in my hands a number of years before Camillus closed and parts were sold at auction. Just call it a factory blade pile mix up. These are suppose to have been caught by an inspector before leaving Camillus. The 307 is a example of partial knives and parts bought at the close of the Camillus factory. Not long ago the same shield was seen on a few 315 yachtsmen sold on the bay. With a normal Knife/Bolt/Hammer shield I consider these 307s, after the fact knives, to be "factory" produced knives. Stick this odd ball stuff on the them and I say no, not normal.....In the oddball category. Someday I am gonna make just a odd-ball display for the knive shows....

Those 3 are my entire odd-ball collection. Not normal at all. A lot of times the inspector will be circumvented to get an order filled and out the door. It's part of manufacturing. Love those little rarities and I want that 307 of course! Thanks for sharing the knowlege....

thank for the reply, I think I will have to go through all my Bucks and put the odd-ball ones in one picture, just wish this one was a new in the box I don't buy many used but I had never seen one like this with pin in back of blade.

I knew a couple of you would really what to know......

Finally got Phil Gibbs, of AGRussell Knives, formerly of Camillus Knives a photo of this 307. He says: "It is a glob of lead!
After the blades are almost finished, the ones that need to be "set" (bent so as to nest with the Spey blade in the closed position in this case) had their tangs dipped in molten lead to anneal them so they could be bent without breaking.

It is unusual that a droplet of lead to stick to the blade like that, but it did happen."

Inquiring minds want to know. Step two is, I bet it gets the ole give it a pry off try.
