Buck 307

Everyone is entitled to a opinion and this is mine. 307s were all made by Camillus. There is no way to tell when they were produced unless you have original box and it is dated. There are no dated versions. There are only knives stamped with BUCK, 307, U.S.A.. There are two shield versions. The 307 with the knife, bolt and hammer shield and 307s with BUCK shields. The BUCK shields were only put on a few 307s.They were designed to be placed on knives PRODUCED in the Buck factory.

BUCK shields were a mistake. They do not mark 307s assembled from 86 to 89.They likely were put on in 86 per the mistake above. I think someone shipped Cami the wrong shields. Just like the very rare 321 with the BUCK shield. I have only seen ONE. Almost no other models made by Camillus have been observed with a BUCK shield. I have never found anyone still at Buck or who worked at Camillus that knows why and when BUCK shields were placed on 307s.

If someone has a date stamped 307 blade lets see a real photo. No photoshop please.

That is my opinion 300Bucks

Can't give a better year, but Dad has a buck 307 he has carried as an edc since the mid 80's (85 or 86). It has the Buck shield.
To bad he recently broke the main blade. I have been trying to get buck to repair or change the blade it but so far only offered to trade it for a 301. Guess they no longer have blades.

I might keep an eye out for a donor buck 307 and see about getting the blade changed.

I already got him a replacement buck 307 from Ebay, but I know he would prefer to have his fixed.

You can make your dad happy, buy a good bladed 307, it does not have to be Buck shield. All the blades are the same, Have a knife person replace the broken blade with new blade. you will likely have to use a knife craftsman such as the ones you see doing stuff here. you can ask but I doubt Buck will do that 300

Interesting stuff. Thanks 300. Looking forward to getting and using this one.

ok, I admit I am an idiot. What is (or was) the difference between the 307 and 301? Was/is the 307 a larger version of the 301?

Fishhunter,

The 301 and 307 are stockman pattern knives. The 307 is larger. Take a look at this photo for comparison.

I must apologize for expressing a opinion that is WRONG. My first post above is incorrect. Now I have sought out knowledge and found the truth.

Dating a 307.......Yes, you can date 307s to two era's. Those with knife, bolt and hammer shield and those with BUCK shields. But actual year dates you can only date to the BUCK shields to 86,87,88 and early 89. All Knife, Bolt and Hammer shields you cannot attach to any particular year.

I have talked today to Phil Gibbs formerly of Camillus Knives, Joe Houser of Buck Knives and Leroy Remer former knife craftsman for Buck knives. All of their memories followed the same path. Camillus received from Buck the BUCK metal sticky back shields in a roll. They would apply them to a indention in the scale. The sticky back shields would then attach themselves to the 307's Delrin scale. The knife, bolt and hammer shields were hot pressed into their indentation during production.

So. yes the Buck shield 307s were made during 86,87,88 and early 89. Others had Knife, Bolt and Hammer shields. They all also felt that all Camillus production for those years should have BUCK shields BUT if so where the heck are they. Other than 307s I have only seen one 321 with a BUCK shield. ? Remember, Buck had taken over production of the 301,303,309 and 305. You would think there would be the same number of other models with BUCK shields.

Thanks guys and particularly to 300. Always interesting to know about the heritage of one model, let alone a whole company.
