Buck 309 or Camillus 24 ??

EEE,
The knife itself is not a Buck. Note that the bolsters are not slanted. Also, the Buck model 309 has two blades but they pivot at opposite ends. Since Camillus made the 309 for Buck on a contract basis, it is likely that the Buck blade was installed in the Camillus plant. I have no explanation for the 24 mark because I am not familiar with how Camillus marked their blades on this model.
I have seen Buck 300 series knives with Sears Craftsman marked blades. I have also seen a 311 Buck trapper frame with a Case blade in it. The owner of that knife is absolutely certain it arrived at his father's hardward store with the Case blade. If he is correct, this would indicate that Camillus also did contract work for Case.

That is a Camillus pattern.

I'd bet that either during or after the days that Camillus made the 309 for Buck, Camillus used up their remaining Buck 309 blades or a Camillus employee used parts laying around to make a "lunch box" knife.

Although if the box is original, the "lunch box" theory is less like.

Either way, cool piece!

That number on the back of the main blade is key to the story. I dont have an answer, only guesses.
Apparantly it is a Camillus pattern so maybe they accidentally stamped some blades, meant for that model knife, with the Buck stamp. And maybe some got assembled and shipped before the error was caught. Is the 24 on the back of the main blade something that Camillus does (did) normally?
I know I have a Camillus Trapper, given by them to Al Buck years ago, that has numbers stamped on the back of the main blade.
Maybe the least we can say is that it is a factory error knife, which, imho, makes it a cool collectible.

Thanks Larry and Last Confederate,I am leaning toward the
blade put in at the factory as I talkked to my friend and he
said he bought three knives just alike in this box for $15.00 total
at a feed store in East Texas.
He did not look at the blades and does not have the other two.

Joe you type faster than me.Thanks for the info.

Yep, I would think so. But what do I know?
At least for me, a novice, I think it is too cool for school.
Especially with the box.

Everyone sounds good to me. I would of snatched it up if I had found it at a sale for my oddball 300 section...one of the examples some of you guys would want(or might want to make) is a cut down 321 bird knife someone has taken the gut hook out of, makes for a very slim but "bad" looking single blade.....
