I'm new here and I just have a question about this knife I found. It's has an engraved blade with "Dairymen Safety Award". Is this a special order and they would do at the factory or is the engraving added later? Also if the engraving was done later does the engraving hurt the value of the knife? The engraving must have been done by a professional or a machine it done very well

I am moving this thread to the Buck Forum.

Well Paleface,

As Silver Alert said, we need you to drop a photo so we can see what you have. As you are new here, I'll let you know that you need to use a photo hosting site. This forum has a sticky to tell you what to do.

They could do it either way - have Buck make it or have it done by someone else. I don't see it on Buck's special projects list but that doesn't mean that Buck didn't do it. Some people collect advertising/award knives. Some people don't like them. I don't mind the advertising/award knives. I do prefer that they are on the special project list, though. Some even have specially engraved sheaths as well. But I try to stay away from knives that have religious, political, or personal engravings on them. But who knows? Some people might even collect those. Of course, probably the biggest thing is what condition it is in.

I really chased the Safety Award and advertising 112's because they usually are very limited. I especially liked Union workers and Mining companies. Every feature was a option. Pad print on the blade bolster engraving lazer etch on the handle and so on.The Zeal is probably the rarest as they are highly sought after in Japan. The top 112 has it all Lazer etch pad print engraved bolsters and even finger grooves!20241109_163649.jpg
