Greetings:
On impulse I just picked up a Buck 314 BB Trapper at a local sporting goods store. When I got home I looked for information on this model at Buck's web site <http://www.bucknives.com> but this model was not listed so perhaps it has been discontinued. Further info on Buck's site told me that the "X" stamped next to the model number on the tang means that this knife was made in 1990. Since this is only my second Buck knife besides the 112 I got in 1978, I am not that familiar with the line and have a few questions about this model.
1. I assume that the blade material is 420 HC. Is this correct?
2. The BB in the model number stands for "Buck Bone". As near as I can tell this is real bone but given the talents of making synthetic materials look like the real thing, I would like some confirmation if my hypotheses is correct. Also, is "Buck Bone" still used on any current models?
Overall, this knife is a nicely finished and attractive piece that looks great despite about a decade sitting on the vendors shelf. Thanks in advance, Alan
