I have recently come into possession of a Buck 112 and Buck 319 from my dad. The 112 had some corrosion on the brass bolsters, but that was easily taken care of with a bit of vinegar and some elbow grease, and after some oil and sharpening it is now my EDC knife of choice. However, there are occasions (work, dinners, etc) where I would prefer something a bit smaller, which is where the 319 comes in....

The main problem is rust, the spiral awl rusted rather badly, and it has spread to the 2nd blade by contact, and to the spine on the inside of the knife. I'm guessing that a very fine grit sandpaper would take care of it, and then oil to prevent future rust? The next main problem is the delrin scales, the grip is nearly completely worn down on them. has anyone re vitalized their scales in anyway that did not require stripping the knife down to its parts and putting on new scales? that might be an option, but something I would like to avoid if possible.

First off the spiral awl is NOT stainless steel and should be treated as such. I would try a small steel brush first, then prehaps some light use of rust remover. Maybe some Coca-cola. The rest of the stains can be polished off. The smooth scales are what you got.......never heard of anyone re-grooving the delrin. They can be replaced by other scale materials but if you want a pro redo job contact Joe Houser at Buck Knives and he will likely have you send in the knife to look at it and then tell you what can be done. They have been known to work near miracles....

I agree with 300Bucks on the de-rusting, I found brass brushes work well also. I have re-grooved an old 303 I carry that had the same problem. Not a very conventional method but it did the job. I just heated a razor knife blade and melted the grooves back in where the old ones were. If your careful it comes out pretty well. Plus it is a user and doesn't have to be perfect. Mine came out better than I expected.
