I appreciate the searchable threads we have documenting versions and history for most model numbers. I recently bought a 332 Barlow and couldn’t find a thread dedicated to it so I figured it was time to start one.

Here’s what I have learned so far - mostly from older posts by 300Bucks 300Bucks in 300 series threads:

In 1999 Camillus produced 900 331 Granddaddy Barlows, and 900 332 Barlows as an exclusive for SMKW. The 332 came in black and yellow sawcut, and the 331 came in black and yellow sawcut, and also brown bone. The model number is not stamped on the tang, only BUCK/U.S.A. with an oval hammer and bolt shield. “Granddaddy Barlow” is etched/printed on the clip blade of the 331. There are no etchings/printings on the blades of the 332. Brass liners and blade separator. Three pins in the scales, one headless/flush.

Both the 331 and 332 have half-stops. Are these the only Camillus-made Buck 300’s with half-stops? Are they the only Buck slipjoints with half-stops? I prefer slipjoints without half-stops, but they’re certainly not out of place on a Barlow.

Anyhow, here’s my 332 that showed up in the mailbox on Friday. I love it!

What more can y’all add? Does anyone have a feel for how many of the 900 in each model were made in what color? Are there any other Barlow runs other than the 1999 one I read about?

Post some pictures please!

The sawcut ridges are pretty light and don’t show up well/at all in this lighting. I’ll try to get a better picture of that detail.

Gorgeous knife. If Buck made those again they'd sell a ton!

This 331 is what is called a 'missionary' knife. A quality control issue between Buck and Camillus resulted in many Buck 300 series knives being given to missionaries to give to native people as part of their program. For more information on the 'missionary' knives you can read(towards the end of chapter ten) in The History of Buck Knives on Buck's website.

Buck ground off some of the identifying marking before shipping them out. This is my 331 'missionary' knife...

Since it was mentioned, here is the 329 Freedom Trapper.
Variations of the Pledge go back to the 1890's but "under god" gains traction in the late 1940's.
The term was credited to Lincoln's Gettysburg address phrase "that the nation shall, under God, have a new birth of freedom."
I could imagine that the Buck family would not have approved the Pledge variation printed in the box lid had they known.
