Pros:
Price, you can pick it up at walmart for $20.Decent quality, good snap, and life time warranty

Cons:
Inferior blade steel.Waln't take a super sharp edge. Will get damn near shaveing sharp but waln't go any further.

Overall Impression:
I like it.It's a cheaper slip joint when one can't afford a case, queen, boker, etc. and doesn't want to sacrifice quality for some really cheaply bulit import. It takes a decent edge, locks up tightly, and has a beautiful/reliable finish and hardware.Buck does it right when you want a good old clunkin knife for a good price. Not as good as a lower end spyderco or benchmade but still gets the job done better than a no name chinese cheapo

What steel is it?

420 High Carbon Stainless. It doesn't hold up as good as 154 CM,S30V,ZDP-189,etc. so I consider it inferior to my other knives in higher end steels. It's just my personal preference in "super steels" that makes me consider 420 HC Stainless to be inferior to higher rockwell rated steels.I'm not bashing their steel because what is good for some is not good for all.Get what I'm saying?

Completely.

I've got a buck 110 in 420HC that EASILY shaves. Now, it may not keep that edge as long as the same knife in BG42, but buck's 420HC will take a screaming edge with a little effort.

I've got a Buck 119 in 420HC and it whittles hair...heck all the 420HC knives I have can shave hair if not whittle them down.

I'd take 420HC any day of the week before I get another knife with Aus8 which IMHO is the worst steel you can use for a knife.

I have a "Camillus" made "Buck" 309 Companion. I have had it for 20 yrs. I assume it has 420HC steel. It works better for me than any steel i have used thus far. I keep it touched up with a crock stick and hone it a couple times a year.
