Hi guys!

found the buck 389 on ebay for a low price, was looking about good offers for a "canoe" and found this one

nickel silver bolsters
420HC steel
natural/white bone handle or syntethic in the 2nd pic
made in china (right?)

how is it? fit finish, steel, compared to others? like case or rough rider/steel warrior

BTW, are there any canoes made by buck in the USA?

thanks
Maxx

Yes. Made in China.

I have heard good things about the Chinese Buck knives.

I have a small Chinese Buck Frame lock and find the fit and finish are good and the edge retention to be reasonable for that alloy.

Hi,

I don't have a Buck Canoe, but I have a 371 large stockman, a medium trapper, and a tiny toothpick. Other than I don't like the fake tortoise shell scales on the toothpick, I find them well made. In fact they are all better than my 303. Buck seems to be doing a good job of QC on their imported line. Even the heat treat on the 420HC seems to as good as it gets too.

I'd buy that canoe and use it.

Go for that Canoe. I have the wood grain 389, and it is as solid a canoe as I have ever handled. Can't go wrong with it.

Of all the off shore slip-joints out their, Buck does the very BEST job at production and quality control. They really are the finest off shore produced knives in the world today and IMO, you can't go wrong if you choose this product..

Just as a suggestion, and as a much garnered second opinion, you may want to consult with the members over at the BF.com Buck forum here..?

Best,
Anthony

well I may even buy the 2 shown, thanks guys!

chinese slips have brass bolsters usually right? not NS like bucks

Go for it, Maxx! I bought one from the same vendor and they are a great knife for the price. As others have said - solid & well made!

Buck produced some of these awhile back as buildouts. USA made made with fossil ivory (mastadon or mammoth, I don't remember) and Chuck Bucks signature on the Wharncliffe style blade. The Wharny blade is Bos S30V and the other is Bos 154CM.

I bought Redbone one for my Brother in Law for Christmas, F/F was A1 and it came razor sharp.
