I have an abused Buck 450u that I am trying to restore. What kind of steel is the blade and what is the best bevel angle to optimise that steel? I have a Lansky to re-bevel it and sharpen.

One of these?

The blade is 420HC, I have been amazed how much this knife has taken, it's been a real workhorse!

Not sure what angle would be best, I just use the angel that Buck used and it resharpens easy and seems to hold an edge good.

I got this one on E-bay for $5. The seller described it as being in "excellent condition". It has a sky blue handle and a combo blade. When I received it, it appeared as if someone had droppped it while grinding the blade on a wheel. The bevel had a flat spot near the tip and the word "Buck" was ground off one of the raised panels on the handle. There were other lesser abraisons on the handle. The metal in the blade is very white and feels soft like it had some aluminum or something in it. I want to make it sharp again, although I realize it will likely never be an edc knife. I got burned a little on E-Bay and I going to call it tuition in the school of life. Therefore I plan to experiment with re-beveling this knife and if I screw it up, its all experience! I'd appreciate some help from the more experienced knife bevelers here as to how I can apply my Lansky to its best and highest use with this knife. I can then apply what I learn to my Benchmade Griptillian and Skirmish. Se, I'm learning already! <G> Thanks for your attention.
