I bought my first Taiwan made Buck - a 2003 476 Diamondback. Diamondback production started in Taiwan then moved to China. The blade was re-designed in the move. I know there were two sheaths, the style pictured here and a Cordura-nylon type. I don’t know if the change in sheaths was due to moving production from Taiwan to China, or not. I haven’t dug into the catalogs yet.
In researching this knife, I found the below quote from a Buck employee from 2007, after production had moved. I never knew that Buck had been working with another company to produce their offshore knives, and wasn’t chosing the manufacturing facility directly. Consequently, Buck made the decision to produce some knives offshore, but never necessarily chose where they were made - the other company did.
This knife took a hair-shaving edge pretty easily. The Velcro belt loop on the sheath is too small for most of the belts we wear these days. It would probably work well on MOLLE webbing. I’ll check that later today. The knife is lightweight and feels good in the hand.
