Just picked up the mail today and my Ergo Hunter (491) small game knife was here waiting for me. I love this knife. The Rosewood handle fits in my hand like it was made just for me. The knife is razor sharp out of the box. The weight of the knife is substantial enough to know your holding a solid knife. The sheath is soft, supple and doesn't need to be worked to break it in. The Sheath doesn't have a model # on it though.

Nice knife Matt, I really like the looks and size on that one. Even when field dressing and butchering deer, I prefer a smaller more compact knife. It looks like you could do some very precise cutting with that one.

It's a sweet knife. I have two versions but so far have only used the one like Matts on trout. It's my favorite so far for fish that I don't filet.
There's a noticible difference in the blade shapes between the Avid and Pro.

The Pro looks like it has a Drop point ad the Avid appears to have a Wharncliffe blade. I wonder why Buck made the blade shape different?

I just bought two Pro's. One for myself and another as a gift for a friend.
Both mine look like Dave's Pro.
I wonder if Dave's Avid is something unique?

In the 2012 catalog the blade style is listed as a Wharncliff blade. If the blade isn't a wharncliff blade, there is an issue. MAybe I will email Joe and see what he has to say.

A Pro for a friend, Wow can we be friends:D

That second small ergo is on its way to Russia. Funny thing is it's up in the air if Russian customs will consider this one a dangerous weapon. We'll see how it goes. Igor has a Pro Hunter, so I thought this was be a nice little secondary with all the moose skinning he does.
