Hey there,

I recently acquired a Buck 500 and a Buck 501

They are stamped 500. and 501.

I can't seem to find and info to date these with a single dot.

The dot is to the right of the model #

Any info would be great.

Thanks in advance!!

Bender,

From Blade's Guide to Knives:
"About 1984-85 the tang stamps were switched from script-style lettering to block-letter font. Examples with a dot after the model number or on each side of the model number may also be found from this time period. The significance of the dots is unknown."

Im probably way wrong on this but I thought I remembered a thread that determined those to be a small trademark symbol?????????
Just takin a shot from area south of the hip.

The dots came about in the early to mid 1980's. I havent nailed that down yet. From what I have been able find out, the single dot was added when we went to Fineblanking those blades instead of conventional blanks. The dot was removed (I think) in 1986 when we started using our current date code system.
Hope this helps.
