Does anyone else have this problem? It is quite difficult to open, when it reaches about 30 degrees, it feels like it hits a stop, and it takes additional force to get it open. I'd say its about 3X as difficult to open as my 110. But it has some serious snap to it, when closing it....
Will this loosen up over time?

Not sure if it will loosen up enough to fit your liking. That sounds stiff. Try oiling it and working it for a day (while watching TV over the weekend). Then make the call. DM

Try what David suggested. You can also run it under hot water and use some dish soap in the pivot then dry and oil. Some times buffing compound and gunk can get into the pivot and keep it from closing all the way, hard to open, etc.

See the red part on the 500? its pretty much flat, with a slight curve near the top....
The green part on the 110? Its almost completely round....

I don't think opening and closing this thing would do much.... is this normal?

My 500 is the same as yours with the flat spot but opens fine.
You might be suprised at what a little oil and playing with it, as DM suggest, will do for it.

I was using olive oil, and was playing for it the past 2 days.... didn't really loosen up....
Is olive oil not the best thing to use? I did because I was gonna be using this knife for food prep mostly.... :P

Not sure about olive oil? It might go rancid over time. I've always used mineral oil for knifes that I use for food prep. Did you try the hot water and dish soap? Personally if the knife had good snap and locks and unlocks as it's supposed to I'd just use and enjoy it. It may loosen up over time with continued use. It's been a while since I used my 501 but I don't think it has a half stop which would explain the way if feels when opened. Does it close smoothly of does it stop at the same point when closing?

I've had one tight like that too,a little whittling on sticks and use should smooth it a bit better.mine is great now and has no play when open or closed...

Only feels like it hits a snag opening..... it closes smoothly with crazy strong snap... I can live with it...
I'll try the hot water and dish soap, and then keep oiling it, and keep using it...
It's really so beautiful, I almost feel guilty using it, instead of my 110 :P
