Buck 500 "Duke"

...What kina markings are on the blade and is the stamp in block letters or does it look like a script type lettering??...

...They changed to the block type lettering in about 1985 so that would make your's 440C or possibly 425M steel...In about 1982 they went with 425M and to 420HC in 1994...Great knife...

I pulled out 'Blades Guide to Knives' and here's the particulars for the 500.

Introduced the 500 in 1978. English script tang stamp, 440c, & Burgandy Micarta.
In 1981, changed to Inpregnated Birch inlays
In 1982, changed to 425 Modified Steel
In 1984, tang stamp changed to block letters
In 1992, change to 420HC

Chances are you have a 425 knife but maybe a 440c.

I do believe mine has the burgandy micarta, so with English script tang stamp, it must be 440c.

Good to know! Thanks!

Does it look like the knife in next to my user ID? That one is burgandy micarta. Some of the birchwood was stained pretty dark but you can see the wood grain.

If its M.I.B., its worth a chuck of change. I paid $100+ for mine.

Here are my 500's. I'll have to work on my picture taking skills.

2-Burgandy Micarta, Jigged Bone, Stag FG, Amber Bone FG ATS-34, Birchwood, and a St. Charles (technically its a 550, but I keep it with these others)

I knew i shouldn't look at these 500's:eek:, now i'll have to start collecting these too, nice knives

Thanks. This picture is to dark but this is my efforts so far for the 300 series, 500 series, & 700 series. Got some pieces still missing but getting there. Slow business as I'm keeping it to NIB pieces and pre-86 except for those Buck added after like the large trapper. All the 500 series are burgandy micarta (the 4 at the left bottom left), there are some birchwood on the bottom right. I see a row of them too at some point but I going to finish off the micarta first...need a 505.
