So I got a nice new Duke in the mail this morning. I've wanted one for years but never ran across a NIB for a price I liked. This one has a 2013 blade stamp.

First impressions are great. I had a smaller knife in the same series (503 I think) for years before it was lost, and have always missed it. I wanted the big 500 though for sentimental reasons; it's the knife my late father in law carried and used for everything.

My FIL was something of a knife abuser, an wouldn't hesitate to ream pipes with his 500. He always had it on him and it was his go-to tool for about everything you shouldn't do with a knife. He was also into diamond stones. His blade was a fraction of original size.

I'm wearing mine on my belt now, and plan to for a while. He was a huge influence on me and I like having the same knife he used. Kind of like he's still there with me working.

I'll put some pictures up, but not until I can get to my mother in law's house. I know right where his old 500 is, and want to take some side by side shots.

I'm also thinking about buying another one for posterity. I have a daughter. Maybe someday I'll have a son in law I will want to pass one along to.

I was thrilled to hear these are being made again. Thank you, good people of Buck, for everything and keep up the great work. Especially your more traditional offerings. They mean a lot to a lot of people.

I've gotta agree with you. The Buck 500 Duke is a great knife. Here is one of two that I got in early July.

Much easier to pocket carry than the Buck 112 but for my liking, after having it for awhile, I prefer to carry it with the supplied sheath.

Congrats!

I've got an older one coming in the mail in a few days.

One thing that I've learned about Buck is that if you buy a knife with some wear on it, just send it in to them for their Spa treatment and what you will get back will be better than anything that came out of the box. Those guys are great! :)

I've often considered sending my well used 110 in for the spa service, but I like the miles I've put on it. I've heard they'll reblade knives too, but have no desire to restore his old 500. It's got too many memories to go messing with.

My favorite Buck, by far.

Too bad mine pocket ejected earlier this summer. Dang it all. Will have to get another one.

My 500 is a like-new 1993 version. Should be here any day. looking forward to it. I have a JK Knives "The Tool", the 500, and a ZT0360 all coming in one package. Christmas in August. :D

Yes, Buck will reblade but I understand what you mean. I have a 701 that belonged to my Dad that needs a reblading, but no way do I want to change that particular knife in any way. That knife was quite literally in his pocket when he passed on.

Something about Buck knives... So often copied, and though it seems like an easy thing to replicate... nobody gets it like the originals :-)

Same boat here I have a Buck 110 that was my FIL's he was a great guy, I don't know how many years he carried that knife
No way will it get re-bladed, even though it probably needs it

Thanks to the OP for bringing up some memories

Alas! My FIL's 500 has gone missing. It about ruined my day, but I'm still happy to have at least a very similar knife.

I'm glad that at least some of you guys had a reaction; it's always nice to remember the people that were important to us. With any luck someday someone will be happy to have our 500s, 110s, and 301s.

Thanks for reading and posting guys. You helped me through a disappointment.
