Hi! I need some info about a knife--A guy I know needed some $, so I bought a few of his knives--One was a Buck 500 with Stag Scales. It is Tang Stamped Buck over 500(AND WHAT APPEARS TO BE AN UPSIDE DOWN V) over USA. He said he bought it in 1988. First---Does all of this seem correct? Second-- Any idea what it may be worth? Knife is super clean and it was in a black sheath,however I didn't think to ask him if it came with the knife or not. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Ratty hit the nail on the head and gave you the info on the age of your Duke 500. The Duke was issued with a sheath and it should have 500 stamped on the back; take a look and let us know what you see. Value is a funny thing and your knife is only worth what you or someone else is willing to pay. Therefore, value is a fluctuating thing and there is no correct answer....there are also some variables....is it NIB or used...do you have the box it was sold in...do you have the papers that were in the box it was sold in...these all affect the value. I'd guess the value for a stag 500 in very good shape to be $80.00 to $100.00 note the info above will affect this price...IMHO.

Thanx everyone! the sheath is black,but it does have 500 stamped on back---None of the knives I got had boxes or paperwork. They have never been used,sharpened,etc. He had them in a little display case. Thank all of you very much for your help---hope you had a Merry Christmas and Have a Great New Year!
