Wondering the carry difference between a 112 drop point and a Buck Duke 500. I have read a 500 is thinner but overall the same dimensions as the 112? Is the 500 as durable for the same tasks as the 112?

The 500 being slimmer is better for pocket carry. I'm sure it's as tough as a 112 in any normal use a 3" folder gets . I love the DP blade profile on the 500 and in fact modified 500 blades were the very first DP 112's.

I don't use my pocketknives hard enough to accurately comment on durability but I have carried both. I carry mostly in my right front pocket but I use a belt sheath occasionally. The 500 does ride a bit more comfortably in my pocket but I prefer the 112 because it has a much better in hand feel. I have a few Drop Point 112's and as a result, it's been more than a year since I carried my 500.

I'd like to see a 112 clip point blade mounted in a 500 frame. Do you think the geometry would work?

500 is stronger and more durable due to its stainless steel construction over brass. it's thinner and pocket carries better. I prefer it as a pocket carried user to the 112.

Now you can see the 112/500 for size comparisons.

If you use a knife to cut as designed then either the 500 or 112 will last a lifetime or two. If you abuse a folder or any other knife it can and will fail. The new aluminum take apart knives will ride just fine for pocket carry as they are light weight. There are a lot of options today so take your time and find what works best for you.

Thank you for the comparison and info!!
