i just got me a buck 500 duke lockback. nice knife but it has some play in the lock. actually, most buck lockbacks have a little but this one is just a little bit more.. should i be concerned?

That is a tough question to answer without seeing the knife. A little play should not lessen the engagement of the lock. If the knife is used and has worn, causing the play that maybe a different story. If you fear that lock will fail please send the knife in to us for review and repair/replacement.

If it is more of an aesthetic concern, ditto...

You might want to check the lock before you send it back. The 500 is especially prone to gathering debris in the lock because it is large. Dig into the notch in the back of the blade with the tip of a paper clip, that will give you a quick answer. Even a little piece of pocket lint will give the knife a little "play" which dissapears when you clean it carefully.
