I got a new Buck from the gun show today. It looks like a 500 or Duke, but there is no model number Just Buck and an anvil and USA. The frame is like nothing I have seen before. It hind of tappers from the front to back. The scales are thinner at the lock back and thicker there the blade folds down. Any info on this knife???

I will get some pics of it up as soon as I get the camera from the wife.

Thanks,
John

Hi John,

Here are some pic's of some Duke 500's. Is this what your new Buck looks like?

Yes that is what it looks like. (I really like the top one with bone scales) I thought it was a Duke, but was not sure as it does not have a model number. I know buck did not put model numbers on their earlier knives, but I know this one is newer because of the anvil mark. I see one of your 500s does not have the model number either.

Thanks,
John

The Duke is a great choice. I picked one up at a show last September, and it`s become one of my favorites.

John - the 500 you have is a limited edition piece - the 500 is no longer a regular production model (unfortunately). The limited edition ones get marked differently than regular production knives. Many of the limiteds don't have their model number stamped on the blade. The only regular production 500's we make right now are for the Eagle Scout Knives - if you're an Eagle Scout, you can get one with engraving direct from Buck for $34 shipped.

in any case, that's a great score! Congratulations!

Thanks for the info. This is a great knife. I have no idea why they DCed it :(. It has a great blade shape and the grinds are great. It is a great slicer. I think my 503's blade is too narrow to get a more acute angle, but this 500 seems to be a great knife. This one will become my EDC. I love my 560, but I really like the look of wood on a knife. I hope to get some pics up soon.

Thanks,
John

Here are a few pics of my new toy. We just got a new camera, and I am still getting used to i. (Sorry for the bad pics.)

Thanks,

John. I'm really sorry - I misread your earlier post and I thought you said you had the one with the bone handle and finger grooves -the knife you have is a standard production line piece, but there's nothing wrong with that. I love the heft of these knives - the 500 is the only folder we make with a sintered satinless steel frame! The other knives like the 503 etc use nickel silver. It looks to be a lot nicer than my production one - mine is a returned knife that Heng Em resurrected from the dead for me.

If you like the 500, I would recommend checking out the 532 - it's another favorite of mine.

Thanks Jimmer, I like the fact that the frame and bolsters are SS. I can feel the heft in this knife. I think this one may replace my 112 . Thanks again for all the great info.

I just bought a 500 yesterday on eBay. The Duke is my favorite Buck. I can't imagine why it was discontinued.
