I've got a 501 that was apparently made in 1995 (c on blade). The side of the knife has 'Peerless' etched between the rivets on the handle.

Is there anything unique about that particular model of 501? It's the only one I've seen like that of all the pictures of 501's I've noticed but that's admittedly not a detailed search. Thanks for your help.

Eagle, I've seen others post pictures of the same one here . Those knives engraved or etched in that manner could be saftey awards, sales promos and tenure gifts . Buck did a LOT of those for many different companies on many models . DM

There are some companies out there that offer the "engraving" on the handles besides Buck also. I bought a couple of Alpha Dorados from one of them and they will lazer engrave anything you want on the handle or blade. I had one done for me and one for a friend. The company will do that on a customers knife if you send it to them.

It could also be that yours is one that was done by an after market company for "Peerless".

The top one in the pictures is the one I had done for me. I didn't have anything put on the blade.
