Buck 501 chipflint

I saw one at a local knife shop a couple weeks ago. What can you tell me about the chipflint 501? Should I go back and snatch it up? It will be a carry knife, not all the time, but still it will not sit on the shelf.

I saw one at a local knife shop a couple weeks ago. What can you tell me about the chipflint 501? Should I go back and snatch it up? It will be a carry knife, not all the time, but still it will not sit on the shelf.

All I can say about them is that I have three Bucks with the chipped flint blade and not one came even sharp enough to use as a letter opener. In fact, I think you'd have to work hard at it to cut yourself with one of them.

That's the way they came and none have been used. I suppose that they can be sharpened for use, but I don't really think use was what they were intended for. The one you saw may be different, who knows.
