At the Gator cutlery knife show a couple wknds ago I picked up some red mammoth tooth for scales that my wife thought looked nice. So I am going to customize a 501 for her for Valentines day.
I have always liked the rounded bolsters of the 111 and since the 501 is my favorite I have wanted it on one since I first saw the 111, So I decided now was the time to try it. Did a little calculating and a cad drawing to make a pattern.

I actually got them ground out and one side fitted tonight but didn't get pictures, maybe tomorrow.

Wow that turned out great. The fit on those scales is perfect. I bet that curve at the bolsters was a pain.

Nice! I like the color.

You have me wondering though. But what knife is that? The first pic is a 501. The one you put the scales on says 501 but I've never seen a 501 with radiused bolsters. Is it a 55 with a 501 blade? I thought they were different sizes. Did buck make a radiused 501?

Thank you
I always thought the rounded bolsters would be a real pain if they are perfect they wont be so bad. Since i didnt have a way to jig it when i cut the bolsters it made it a little more time consuming shaping the scales to fit.

Pete, I think st8yd, rounded the bolsters himself...see bold, below...he'll have to say for sure.
Thank you

I really didn't notice the rounded bolsters but looked twice at the 501 stamped on the tang. It still didn't register. Good eye Pete...
st8yd, makes the job even better knowing what you did!

Pete

Thanks guys.
Ya I stated in the original post that I was rounding the bolsters after the 111. LOL, I know we all just like to look at pics, not read.

Are the two radius part of the same circle? They came out perfect to my eye. Nicely done!
