I am thinking about getting a buck 501 from the custom shop with s30v. They list the blade length as 2 3/4 but can any of you guys that have one of theses tell me what the length of the cutting edge is without the tang. Thanks for your help

According to my ruler, the length of the handle is 3 3/4", the blade is 2 9/16", and the cutting edge is 2 1/4".
Mine has been used and been to the spa, so it's possible the blade is a little shorter than stock, but this should get you close.

You also might be able to get some feedback on the custom offerings over on the Buck side of the forum: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php/701-Buck-Knives

Walt's numbers look good.

From Buck's website for stock 501:
Blade Length: 2 3/4" (7 cm)
Length Closed: 3 3/4" (9.5 cm)
Weight: 3 oz. (85.4 g)

I have a 444, which I believe has the same blade as the 501. Cutting edge is 2-7/16" on mine.
