At least 10yrs ago I saw a 501 with stag handles and a damascus blade for sale in Smokey Mountain Knife works magazine for $80. I wanted it bad but at the time couldn't justify spending that much on a knife.

Well a year or so ago I went in search for it and found the sambar stagg scaled 501 for $80 and told the family that's what I wanted for fathers day and they got it for me.

I'd still like to find the one with damascus blade.

In search for this I've recently become aware that other 501's are out there. Is there a list of what buck had done on custom 501's?

I've been carrying a 501 for over 20 yrs, I've been given or picked up something different here and there but always come back to the 501.

I'd like to see that knife also.

The 501 has been made in many limited edition and special order versions.
Here one of the LE's issued by Buck

Sure, I need to get some better light first, its tough to get a good picture of it. I know this because the first one that came from buck the scale was fit poorly to the bolster, almost a 1/16" gap. So I took some pictures of it and had a hard time getting enough light.

I have two rain drop Damascus 501's in my collection. One in ebony and one in bark mastodon ivory. Both knives were made up as specials to take to the Blade Show by Joe Houser in 2002. The knives were sold to BCCI members and I think the proceeds were donated to the Club. I am not aware of any Damascus 501's being sold by SMKW. Further, I don't recall if any of the club specials were done in stag. FYI.

This is my 2nd or 3rd 501 I've had it for nearly 20 yrs. I put the birdseye maple scales on about 12 yrs ago and used a CA glue finish which has worn quite a bit. One side fell off a couple years ago and I'm currently experimenting with some glue/technique and I will then replace them again but I will be stabilizing the wood this time though.

The dreaded red X, ya I've been trying to figure out what I did wrong. I've pasted the link inside the image tags. I've re-read the tutorial. ????

I used to have that problem, but then I switched to Acraglas from Brownell's, the stuff you glass bed gun stocks with...good results so far. If you open a free PhotoBucket account, you will enjoy those results as well.

How ironic. I used acraglass and I have the photobucket account which I'm trying to attach the pictures from.

Well, you got the pictures:) You may want to try LOCTITE 326 SPEEDBONDER on your handles next time, as it works well

Thanks for the pictures. Nice knives and the bottom two look like they have been used a fair amount. Nice pictures and Welcome.

Richard,

I would also love to see your DM 501's.....it's time for you to get a camera and share some of your knives with us;). The only BCCI 501 with stag that I recall is the one with the DM bolsters & stag handles, I have one of the Duke 500 knives and they are fantastic.....now I need the rest of that series (501, 503, 505)
